Dr. Xabier Irigoyen is since September 2011 the Director of the Red Sea Research Center at King Abdullah University for Science and Technology (KAUST). He was awarded a Phd in Oceanography by the University of Bordeaux in 1994 and since he has successively worked in “Instituto de Ciencias del Mar” (CSIC, Barcelona), “Plymouth Marine Laboratory” (NERC, Plymouth) and “Southampton Oceanography Center” (NERC, Southampton), before joining AZTI in 2002. He has participated in several EU funded projects (JEEP, MATURE, MARE, TASC) and leaded projects funded by NERC (UK) and MCYT (Spain). His main interests are in the plankton distribution and trophic links and the consequences for fish recruitment.
