Pierre Petitgas, Dr in geostatistics, works at the interface between fish ecology, oceanography and management in the context of the ecosystem approach to fisheries. His research focusses on the spatial organisation of fish populations, its relation climate and marine spatial planning. At Ifremer since 1998, he has worked on the ecoloy of small pelagic fish, has contributed to convert fisheries surveys into ecosystem monitoring plateforms, has developped the coupling of fish life cycles with oceanographic models and contributed to designing spatial management options. He is Head of the research unit on Ecology and Models for Fisheries at Ifremer in Nantes. He has long worked with ICES and European networks. He is French delegate at ICES Council and Science Committee.
