Dr. Alexander Turra holds an undergraduate degree in Biological Sciences at Campinas State University and Master’s and PhD degrees in Ecology. Founded the NGO Instituto Costa Brasilis in 2005, acting as its President until 2006. In 2006, assumed the position of assistant professor in Integrated Coastal Management at the Oceanographic Institute of São Paulo University. Dr. Turra works in the different fields of marine science as marine governance, management and conservation of marine areas, marine environmental impact assessment, climate changes and marine ecology. He is engaged in academics, serving on several committees, teaching both graduate and undergraduate courses, and advising a significant number of students. Dr. Turra had published more than 80 scientific papers, books and chapters in different branches of marine science. His research interest also includes the examination of the link between science and public policies.
